Warning Bulletin

by Carl Peterson

Don't repeat our scanning mistakes.

We didn't make the pictures large enough
because:

1.we were saving internet storage space.

Now we have unlimited internet space.

2. Internet downloads were very slow
with large pictures.

Now they can run full screen
every second on cd's.

Full screen shows more detail.

BULLETIN

To get better resolution on old pictures
we are scanning and enlarging
from negatives when available.

The new group of 5000 negatives
is stored on our hard drives
and archival cd's.

We have stopped editing the archived jpegs.

Anyone can edit them
after copying the photos
from the internet.

You can make your own photo histories
from copies of our free archival cd's.

We currently use xp Roxio photo relay software.

The existing smaller photos on the internet
will stay there as they are now sorted.

All older and future photos
can be downloaded
one by one from internet.
or supplied on cd's.

You can copy pictures
from the cd's you have received
however many of the pictures
1. are small size
2 have less resolution.

Most future cd's will hold about 1000 large pictures.
and run automatic slide shows.

See new internet index by country
and index by state and city
in student.picturesfree.org and picturesfree.org.

I still need 50,000 more
photo's and negatives to fill in.

Got some on disk you will share
with the world?

---------------------------

Our picture history and solutions.

We started by scanning from prints
in 1996.

We made our pictures too small.

We were concerned by:
1. Limited internet storage space.

2.Slow download speeds of 56k modems

December 2002

We are enlarging all new scans
of negatives and pictures
to large size.

1. They run fast on cd's.
and when loaded into hard drives.

2. Big monitory screens
are preferred by users
and are now much cheaper.

3. 20 to 100 gigabyte hard drives
are becoming more standard

4. 5 -10 gigabytes will store
about 50,000 to 100,000 full size pictures.

5. We now have a small cd copier and labeler
that copies and prints the label
for 25 cd's every 2 hours.

Estimated cost 3 to 4 dollars per cd.

6. A faster machine will be purchased in the future.
